Hi there, my name is Emily Yang and I am a high school junior at Balboa High School in San Francisco. I've been accepted into a life-changing program with Global Glimpse - an organization dedicated to empowering young people to become engaged global citizens. Their mission is to provide high school students with immersive travel experiences that combine leadership development, community service, and cultural exploration. As part of this program, I will be traveling to Turrialba, Costa Rica this summer! During my time in Costa Rica, I will be working alongside local communities to engage in meaningful service projects that will directly benefit the people there. This trip is not only about giving back, but also about learning from others, understanding diverse perspectives, and growing through these unique experiences.
I have a few personal hopes for this trip:
- Building community with my fellow travelers and peers from different backgrounds, learning to work together for common goals.
- Conducting community service that makes a real impact on the lives of those who live in Turrialba and the surrounding areas.
- Embracing a new culture and language, gaining a deeper understanding of Costa Rican traditions, values, and ways of life.
- Building my Spanish-linguistic skills
- Deepening my interests in environmental justice and climate change
This is an opportunity to challenge myself and grow, and I am incredibly excited to embark on this journey of learning and service.
My goal is to raise $800. This fundraiser will be used to give back to the community I will serve in Turrialba, Costa Rica.
