Empowering ELLs: Support Our Writing Contest

Donation protected
My name is Mishelle Kehoe-Seamons, founder of In the ESOL Classroom, an organization that serves ESOL teachers and their students.

I'm ecstatic to announce that In the ESOL Classroom is hosting its first-ever writing contest for English language learners. This nation-wide writing contest is for all 7th-12th grade English language learners--regardless of their immigration status, native language, or proficiency level.

This one-of-a-kind writing contest serves many purposes. It allows ELLs to:

  • Find and share their voice
  • Explore their unique identities
  • Build their confidence
  • Practice and enhance their English language skills
  • Have something they can add to their job or college applications

Many writing contests use entrance fees to cover the cost of cash prizes, but because I want all ELLs to have equal access to this competition, there is no entrance fee for students.

I'm starting this GoFundMe in an effort to raise money for the winners of this writing contest. All donations will go directly to student winners. The prize money would be allotted as follows:

  • First place - $250
  • Second place -$150
  • Third place - $100

(There are two categories, so there are three winners per category.)

Thank you in advance for your generous donation. Every dollar counts toward something greater!
