Help Me Stand With Unaccompanied Minors in Immigration Court
My name is Elizabeth Alvarado, and I’m a certified paralegal and dedicated educator in New York City. For years, I’ve served families and children in our public schools—many of whom are immigrants navigating incredibly difficult systems. As our political landscape continues to shift in deeply troubling ways, I can no longer remain just an observer. I want to act.
I am raising funds to take an immigration law training course through VFC Immigration Academy so I can directly support unaccompanied minors in immigration court—children who are often left to represent themselves, alone, and sometimes restrained, with no legal guardian or advocate by their side.
Why This Matters
The program that once offered legal services to these children has been defunded. This means unaccompanied minors—many of whom are fleeing violence, poverty, or unimaginable trauma—are now walking into courtrooms completely alone. As a mother, teacher, and advocate, I cannot ignore this.
I’ve always dreamed of going to law school, but like many others, I placed that dream aside because of the financial and time demands. However, I believe we don’t have to be attorneys to make a powerful impact—we can still be advocates.
The Training Program
The Immigration Training Program offered by VFC Immigration Academy introduces the U.S. immigration system and provides practical skills needed to assist an immigration attorney. It’s specifically designed for legal assistants and paralegals, preparing us to support families, asylum seekers, and unaccompanied children in real, meaningful ways.
With your support, I will gain the tools to:
Assist immigration attorneys
Advocate for unaccompanied minors in court
Connect immigrant families with resources
Serve as a legal bridge between schools, communities, and vulnerable children
How Your Donation Will Help
Your contribution will go directly toward:
Tuition for the VFC Immigration Academy course
This is more than a course—this is my calling. I want to help the children and families who are falling through the cracks, and I can’t do it alone.
Even a small donation can make a big difference. If you believe in standing up for the voiceless, in dignity, in justice—please join me in this mission.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting.
With deep gratitude,
Elizabeth Alvarado
