Exploring Our Birthright: Sending Students to Ghana
What if a student could stand where their history began—not in a textbook, not in a classroom—but on the soil of their ancestors?
For many of our students, the story of Black history begins with slavery and ends with struggle. But their story did not start in chains. It began in kingdoms, culture, leadership, brilliance, and pride.
In 2026, we are giving students the opportunity to experience what school alone cannot teach:
A journey to Ghana, where history is not something you read—it’s something you feel.
This is The Birthright Experience.
✨ More Than a Trip — A Transformation
This experience will be the first time out of the country for many students.
The first passport they’ve ever held.
The first time they will see Africa—not through the lens of loss, but through legacy.
They will walk through historic sites, stand in places of resilience, and engage with local historians, educators, and cultural leaders. They will learn that they come from people who built, led, created, and thrived long before history books told a different story.
Students will return home changed—not just inspired but empowered.
Preparing Before We Travel
This journey begins long before the plane takes off.
Students will participate in six pre-trip educational sessions focused on:
African history and culture
Identity, leadership, and global citizenship
Reflection, journaling, and dialogue
They will also read Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi, connecting literature to lived history as they prepare to walk the very paths described in the pages.
Why Your Support Matters
The total cost of this experience is $40,000, covering:
International airfare
Lodging and transportation
Educational tours and cultural experiences
Travel insurance
Passports and travel documentation
Program materials and student preparation
For many families, this opportunity would be impossible without community support. Your donation removes financial barriers and replaces them with possibility.
An Investment in the Future
When you give, you are not just funding a trip.
You are:
Expanding worldviews
Strengthening identity
Building confidence
Creating future leaders
You are helping students return with a deeper understanding of who they are—and who they can become.
This experience is supported by the Krystyn Courage to Dream Foundation, a nonprofit committed to youth empowerment, access, and transformational opportunities. All funds raised will be used exclusively to support student participation in the Birthright Experience.
