Subject : Support needed (£56,540 = $75,707 USD) to fund my Oxford education, enabling me to improve health-care in low- and middle - income countries.
Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Supporters,
I have been accepted into Oxford University, having received an offer to pursue an MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine starting in October 2026.
I am reaching out to you today with a mix of humility, hope, and a clear vision for the future of healthcare in Nepal. My name is Dr. Laxmi Panthy. I am a licensed medical doctor in Nepal, registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK, and currently working in the emergency department of Sahara hospital in Pokhara. Throughout my career—spanning emergency medicine, government hospitals, rural communities, and public health initiatives—I have witnessed firsthand the struggles patients face in accessing timely, quality medical care.
My Commitment: Service Beyond the Clinic
For the past seven years, my medical practice has been deeply intertwined with community service and humanitarian aid. I believe that a doctor's duty extends far beyond the walls of a hospital:
Disaster Relief & Crisis Response: Serving on the frontlines during natural disasters, providing medical aid and relief to earthquake and flood victims.
COVID-19 Frontlines: Serving as a COVID-19 Hospital Chief and launching free telemedicine programs, providing healthcare service in remote areas of Nepal for underprivileged communities during the height of the pandemic to bridge critical gaps in care.
Pediatric Advocacy: Supporting underprivileged children by facilitating access to essential medical treatments they otherwise could not afford.
Community Health & Education: Organizing free health camps in remote areas and pioneering the "Save 5 Lives" first aid and emergency response training initiative for schools, police officers, teachers and community officers. These efforts to strengthen healthcare from the grassroots up have earned recognition both locally and internationally, including the International Icon Award (2025), the Sashakta Naari (Powerful Lady) Samman, and multiple COVID Warrior Bravery Awards.
A Once-in-a-Lifetime OpportunityTo scale my impact, I need to couple my clinical experience with advanced global health strategies. To that end, I have been offered admission to the prestigious MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine at the University of Oxford.
It would mean the world to me to be able to follow this program, beyond the prestige of Oxford in general, this study programme is also considered as one of the best programmes on International Health and Tropical Medicine in the world. Following
this programme would give me a vital chance to acquire the research, leadership, and system-level skills required to fight health disparities and prepare myself to be a global health leader who will contribute to Nepal and other low- and middle-income countries around the world.
My extensive efforts to be able to follow
this programme After years of trying and continuous efforts my academic and professional ability has finally brought me to Oxford's very door, but financial barriers are still preventing me from entering the classroom.
I have made many efforts to fund this dream, and have now come to the point that I am also asking for your help. Sometimes, it is hard not to feel the weight of where I was born. Unlike peers in wealthier countries, citizens in Nepal do not have access to study loans for such substantial amounts. Usually I am the person who sets up crowdfunding for others, such as for a child who could otherwise not afford his necessary care. Now I need your support to be able to contribute even more to the health of the society in the years to come.
My personal efforts to obtain funding are summarized below:
A. The Scholarship Gap: I initially hoped my application would automatically qualify for university scholarships, but those options did not materialize. I also applied for the prestigious Chevening Scholarship, but unfortunately, I did not receive a positive response.
B. 50+ Emails: I have written nearly 50 emails to ambassadors, embassies, global organizations, and philanthropies searching for a solution. I didn't receive any satisfactory reply.
C. Government & Local Advocacy : I have knocked on every door of the Nepal government, visited ministries - Prime-minister, Education and finance etc and approached numerous local public figures, but I have not received any satisfactory support.
Sometimes, it is hard not to feel the weight of where I was born. Unlike peers in wealthier countries, citizens in Nepal do not have access to study loans for such substantial amounts.
The Final Challenge :
I really don't want to let this opportunity slip away.
I am prepared to support myself in the UK—using my personal savings, with help of friends, family and relatives and part-time work to cover 100% of my accommodation, food, and daily living expenses of around £25,000 (25,000 British Pounds) converts to approximately $33,500 USD or रु 5,159,250 NPR (Nepalese Rupees) based on current central bank rates. The only barrier remaining is the university tuition itself (£56,540 per year=$75,707 USD). With all other doors closed, I have turned to this platform to make my appeal.
How You Can Help :
1. Donate: If you are able to contribute—no matter the amount—you are directly investing in a future global health leader. Every dollar brings me closer to the classroom.
2. Share & Connect : If you cannot donate, please share my story. If you represent an organization, or know of a foundation that would be willing to sponsor me under a bonding agreement, please reach out to me directly.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in the power of education, and for helping me step through the door at Oxford so I can bring that knowledge back to the people who need it most.
With sincere gratitude and appreciation,
Dr. Laxmi Panthy Medical Doctor , Social worker, Peace Activist & Public Health Advocate.
