Hello! My name is Michaelyn, and my co-teacher Emily and I are trying to raise funds to get a reading curriculum that is specifically designed for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. With the changes in US government as well as the struggles the current administration has caused in the educational realm - specifically in the area of funding, we have been unable to get appropriate curriculum for our students.

Emily and I work with profoundly deaf students who come to us with little to no language. That being said, we are tasked with teaching our students two languages, American Sign Language and English, at the same time. With no curriculum that the students can access (reading curriculum in school districts is phonics based, and when you are profoundly deaf, phonics does not work), we have had to create our own - until now...

We would like to raise funds to get a subscription to the Bilingual Grammar Curriculum. The Bilingual Grammar Curriculum is a curriculum that is specifically designed for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students to support our teaching of ASL grammar and English grammar.

We have been trying to work with our district for over a year to get this curriculum purchased but have been blocked at almost every corner. For our Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, especially those with a profound hearing loss, they are in a critical window for learning, and the longer we are forced to wait, the less time we have to teach them language. On average, a profoundly Deaf student, who suffers from Language Deprivation (not having access to language from age 0-5) will graduate with 4th-grade reading level.
