Hi, my name is Dana, I’m 29, and I need to be able to drive.
No, I’m not the old man in the cover photo, but it is funny, right?
Welcome to my GFM! This is something I hemmed and hawed a lot about, but the need is becoming so great that I can no longer ignore it. Thus, this was born.
This fundraiser was created with the intent on helping aid my efforts in saving to purchase a used car. I’ve been finding more and more that not having a car has limited the area I can search for housing and job opportunities. It is also greatly inhibiting my medical transportation and ability to care for myself and my household.
With my work schedule and lack of flexible resources, I cannot always rely on others or public services like Medicaid cabs; reliable transportation is a must for me and that comes in the form of having my own vehicle. I’ve already saved about ¼ of what I think I’ll need, but used cars (that are able to be driven off the lot) tend to still be quite costly right now, especially with my income. I have been looking at cars all over the tristate area, and many drivable cars (as in they actually start) are well over what I can reasonably save by myself. Paired with the fact that I make minimum wage and can only work part-time due to my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome impacting my physical capability to hold a full-time position, it’s inconceivable for me to be able to do this alone.
I need help.
Because of that, I’m desperately asking for any and all donations you can spare. Seriously, no donation is too small. Even if it’s a dollar, that would just get me a dollar closer to being a disabled adult who can care for themselves.
Thank you so much for reading. I also want to thank everyone for considering donating, for supporting me, and for spreading the word through sharing this. It means more than words can express.
