Empower Dalton with Liberty's Service Dog Training

Hello, my name is Melissa Huddleston. My husband Mike and I are raising funds for our Golden Retriever Liberty to be a service dog for our son Dalton!

Dalton is 23 years old and was born with Spina Bifida, a neural tube defect. Spina bifida is a condition that occurs when the spine and spinal cord don't form properly. Spina bifida can range from being mild symptoms to causing serious disabilities. Symptoms also depend on whether the spinal cord and nerves are involved. Dalton’s form of Spina Bifida was lower on his spinal cord that resulted in him having more serious disabilities.

Things have been going really well for Dalton up until the last year and a half. In his 23 years, he has had a total of 44 surgeries thus far from head to toe. Dalton has been relying on his crutches and wheelchair a lot more. He is requiring more help and having Liberty trained to assist him will be a huge help! Just to name a few of things Liberty will help Dalton with are: helping him get up from a seated position, navigating steps, providing physical support to maintain his balance. She will also be able to help him retrieve things, such as his crutches, his phone, eyeglasses, anything he needs. She will also be able to open and close doors, press buttons for handicap doors, turn light switches on and off, etc. Dalton has also been having a lot of anxiety when around a lot of people so Liberty will be able to keep him calm as well. That is just a few of the things Liberty can help Dalton with as his service dog! The cost to have a dog trained as a service dog is $6,500.00. This includes all items needed to train Liberty. Dalton has deteriorated enough that he is requiring the need of a service dog to facilitate his daily independence.

Liberty is such a blessing to us and having her trained will give us some peace of mind, as well as help Dalton maintain his independence.

This money is going to go to the cost of Liberty being trained as well as all things needed for her!
