Empower Crystal and Jalen to Overcome Homelessness
Donation protected
Hi beautiful people! I am fundraising for Crystal Adair and her son Jalen, with whom I had the privilege of working this college application season, getting to know these amazing human beings.
Jalen is a brilliant mathematics student and meteorology enthusiast who aspires to obtain a PhD in both subjects. His career goals are to teach math at the college level, while also studying hurricanes and improving weather forecasting models. He is also on the spectrum, with the challenges that brings. Crystal is an inspiring and resourceful single mom who has 24 years of experience working as a language acquisition and literacy teacher and instructional coach in diverse, under-resourced, and marginalized communities and school systems (e.g., Washington, DC, Prince George’s County, MD, Baltimore, MD, and Oakland, CA).
Crystal lost her job last year and immediately began applying for contract work with school districts. And Jalen began working with her as a tutor. They have had some clients but not enough to keep up with family bills. This led to homelessness a few months ago, with Jalen and Crystal paying by the day where possible for shelter.
Without some initial influx of funds to tide them over, Crystal is not going to be able to pay for food or get transport to the job interviews she has been applying for. For now she is relying on her church, but there is only so much one small organization can do.
It takes resources to live until one of the job applications yields a position. And this comes out of critical juncture for Jalen, who is just about to start college. He has gotten nearly full tuition scholarship at a couple of local schools in the Baltimore area but there are still living expenses.
The idea that this brilliant young man and his devoted, smart, and hard-working mother could be trapped in these circumstances because lack of funds is heartbreaking...
Please join me in contributing to the funds that will allow this talented and dedicated mother and son to get back on their feet.
May all be auspicious for them and for you!
