My name is Callum. I am a trans man and an educator at an LGBTQ youth center seeking funds for my top surgery in June. I will need funds for the surgery itself, as well as accommodations and travel to get to my chosen surgeon in Illinois, and funds to account for missing work for 3-4 weeks while I recover.
Dysphoria prevents me from having a full and happy life. It has caused me life-long mental health struggles and inhibits my ability to function at my greatest capacity. This surgery will allow me to feel more confident and comfortable in my body and alleviate the distress and pain caused by my gender dysphoria.
As a trans adult working with queer children, it is important to me that the queer kids I work with know that queer people can not only survive into adulthood, but that they can live a full, happy, and confident life. My top surgery is critical because trans health care is a human right, but also because I hope to show these kids that transition is obtainable, that asking for help and support from your community is a sign of strength, and that no matter what shape the political climate takes, that community will always show up for them. I humbly ask you to show up for me so I can live that example. Thank you.
