Empower Bolivian Youth with Vital Health Education

Hi! I’m Gabriela Gompers, and I’m passionate about improving the lives of adolescents in rural Bolivia. My maternal family comes from Bolivia—a country rich in culture but facing significant economic and social challenges. In Mizque, Bolivia, nearly 30% of teens experience pregnancy, largely due to a lack of access to health education and resources. My commitment for addressing these challenges began after my beloved Bolivian great-grandmother passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic due to limited vaccine access. Her tragic loss revealed the stark health inequities in Bolivia. As someone with Bolivian heritage, I’ve seen firsthand how these inequities impact young women—some my age. To create meaningful change, I am working with the community of Mizque in coordination with Fundación de Waal to raise $20,000 to build an educational center. This center will serve as a vital space for learning and development, featuring a classroom, chairs, a library, teaching staff, and audiovisual equipment to provide a comprehensive educational experience. It will host programs focused on pregnancy prevention, prenatal and postnatal care, and other critical topics, empowering adolescents with the tools they need to make informed decisions about their futures.
