Empower Black Portland Independent Filmmaking

We're a small and passionate team of storytellers, filmmakers, producers and writers embarking on a journey to create something truly special—an independent film that has the ability to showcase Black Portland’s creativity, entrepreneurial innovation and spirit of resilience like never before.

Our award-winning project is a series titled “Where We Goin?" that explores Black creatives and entrepreneurs set against the backdrop of one of the Whitest cities in America, Portland Oregon. In a state that outlawed Black people living here, we still came and claimed spaces, got pushed out and are still fighting for creative freedom and a place to thrive. Themes of imagination, loss, and the pursuit of dreams rise, while our host, native Portlander, Devin Boss traverses the Portland city landscape, examining it's cultural history throughout the series. Our city became known during the George Floyd protests as ground zero in the nation's reckoning with race. While that moment still pulses in the spirit of Black folks in Portland and nationwide, it has left us changed. Where We Goin’ gives us context to what that divide is rooted in and decidedly challenges viewers to see the brilliance and hope of Black Portlanders that is intended to feel like family and connect with our audience on a deep level.

Where We Goin’s pilot episode was produced as a labor of love on a shoestring budget; despite this it has gone on to win three nationally covered awards from Best Documentary Short at the Portland Film Fest and two Telly Awards. As we produce our second episode, we need your support to scale up the quality of our film, and cover the costs of making this important piece of media. Our second episode aims to showcase internationally recognized photographer and multi-disciplinary artist Intisar Abioto who landed in Portland by way of her native Memphis nearly a decade ago to explore her unique way of utilizing the arts to foster community and historical reckoning. The episode will also showcase the nation’s largest urban land reclamation effort in Albina Vision, which aims to rebuild part of Black Portland’s historic community as we put our eyes toward possibility and the future.

Why We Need Your Support: Independent filmmaking is a labor of love, but it also comes with its challenges, especially when it comes to funding. Your generous contributions will enable us to cover essential costs such as:

Production Equipment: Quality equipment is crucial for capturing the essence of our story and bringing it to life on screen.

Location Expenses: From securing filming permits to renting locations, there are various costs associated with shooting in different settings.

Cast and Crew: Talented actors and dedicated crew members are integral to the success of our project, and your support will help us compensate them fairly for their hard work.

Post-Production: Editing, sound design, and visual effects are essential steps in creating a polished final product that meets the highest standards of filmmaking.

Marketing and Distribution: Once the film is complete, we'll need resources to promote it and make it accessible to audiences worldwide.

Every dollar you contribute will make a difference and bring us one step closer to turning our vision into reality. No amount is too small, and we're immensely grateful for any support you can offer.
Join Our Journey: By supporting our campaign, you're not just helping us make a film—you're becoming a part of our filmmaking family. We'll keep you updated every step of the way, sharing behind-the-scenes insights, exclusive content, and sneak peeks into the creative process.
