Our non-profit organization is dedicated to fostering an enriching environment for high school, middle school, and elementary school students in the Berryessa Union School District to engage in activities in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). In summer of 2024, SAS hosted a two day activity from June 3rd to June 4th at Laneview Elementary School. SAS members, staff, and high school volunteers helped elementary schoolers build their own STEM projects: solar powered jittery bugs (grades K/1), battery powered skateboards (grades 2/3), and motorized drones (grades 4/5). In total, there were 400 total students participating with over 30 high school volunteers. After the event, SAS garnered feedback from teachers who spectated and were invited to organize more STEM days in the future. Overall, STEM day was a major success, and SAS plans many more to come. This year we plan multiple STEM days in early summer that are in desperate need of funding. In order to scale our reach and impact on the younger generations, we require around $5000 to support STEM days at two schools.
