My name is Burke Harke. I'm a student at Baxter Academy in Portland, Maine. My goal is to found an Electrathon race team at Baxter. The team would allow students to practice and showcase their engineering and design skills and provide a chance to compete against other schools across New England.
About Baxter Academy:
As Maine’s only public charter high school dedicated to STEM, Baxter Academy has a rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum promoting student ownership of learning through curriculum focused on science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. Baxter Academy students study complex, real-world problems. Students use and build technological tools in a collaborative environment with scientists, engineers, artists, musicians, writers, architects and many other professionals.
As part of Baxter Acedemy's curriculum, they developed the Flex Friday program. Flex Friday allows students to develop and pitch a project to the faculty and, if approved the student works on their project throughout the school year. Friday is set aside as a school day to work on these projects.
About Electrathon of America:
Electrathon America was first formed in California during the late 1980s as an Electric Vehicle platform to educate through hands-on design, fabrication and competition. Races are held across the country including the bi-annual races in Lakeville, Connecticut where we hope to compete.
Any remaining funds not used during this project will be given to Baxter Academy to support this program in the future.
