Empower Angela G.'s Mission: From Survival to Service

In March 2024, my life changed in ways I could never have anticipated. After a series of medical challenges and multiple surgeries, I found myself facing not only physical recovery but also a complete reimagining of what my future could look like. I promised myself that if I made it through, I would use that experience to bring meaning and purpose — not just for myself, but for others who face moments of uncertainty and change.

The months that followed required deep patience, humility, and faith. Recovery forced me to slow down, step back from work, and learn to accept help — something that has never come easily to me. Yet through that process, I discovered a renewed sense of empathy and a stronger commitment to serving others.

In my roles as a program admin and authorization for services associate and also as a coordinator supporting parents navigating the emotional and legal challenges of custody issues, I’ve seen firsthand how stress and hardship shape lives. My experiences have made me a more compassionate listener and a more patient advocate. I’ve come to understand that strength isn’t only about perseverance — it’s also about the courage to pause, heal, and grow.

Outside of work, I’ve volunteered as a girls’ volleyball coach, helping young athletes build confidence and resilience. Coaching reminds me that setbacks do not define us — our response to them does. I also remain active in my community, supporting initiatives addressing homelessness and domestic violence. Even when my energy feels limited, service has been my constant source of purpose and healing.

Since joining Phi Alpha in April 2025, I have been dedicated to immersing myself in leadership development and making meaningful contributions to the organizations I am part of. In March, I joined the NSLS, earned my Advanced Leadership Certificate in May 2025, and I am currently pursuing the Executive Leadership Certificate. I also joined Omega Nu Lambda in October 2025, and I am most recently honored to have been accepted into SCLA this November. These experiences have strengthened my confidence, broadened my leadership toolkit, and deepened my desire to serve in roles where I can uplift others. They have also become a powerful motivator for finishing my education strong so I can continue giving back to the community with greater impact.

Pursuing my education through all of this has been both my anchor and my greatest challenge. I am a first-generation college student, maintaining a 4.0 GPA and currently 83% through my third degree. Balancing full-time coursework while working two jobs and recovering medically has stretched me in every way imaginable. Financially, the strain of medical costs and lost income has made it increasingly difficult to stay on track, despite years of scholarship applications and limited loan availability.

Completing this degree and earning my professional license will allow me to serve individuals and families with greater effectiveness and long-term stability. It represents more than a credential — it is a pathway to turning my challenges into opportunities to uplift others with compassion and understanding.

Any support provided would help offset the costs that student loans do not cover, including required books, materials, and resources essential for my studies. Funds would also help me begin repayment on existing loans until I am able to secure employment in my field. Your support would directly impact my ability to complete my education and continue my mission of service.

Thank you sincerely for your time, understanding, and consideration of my request.
