Empower an International Student's Future

Hi everyone! My name is Jordene Daley and I’m a 4th-year medical student at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. I am creating this GoFundMe page to raise funds for a friend of mine, who is also a student at Loma Linda University. She is an international student, who has a passion for advocating in her local community and making a positive impact on healthcare policies and patient care. She is excited to pursue a career in public health and continue her higher education by pursuing her Master’s in Healthcare Administration.

As an international student, both she and her family have been under tremendous financial strain while trying to support her the best they can. After the COVID-19 pandemic, her dad lost his business and began encountering health issues, while her mom has been working full-time to make ends meet. My friend is an ambitious, smart, hardworking, driven, and creative person. She uses these traits to her advantage by providing childcare for many different families, creating and selling charcuterie boards for private events, and selling her acrylic paintings. However, even with all of these avenues, she has not been successful at raising enough funds to cover her first quarter tuition and deposit for her Master’s program starting this month.

Since she is international, there are certain requirements that must be met to secure her seat this fall semester, which have proven to be challenging. She must come up with $10,000 upfront to cover the cost of tuition to cover books, supplies, and living expenses in order to complete registration and receive her official government visa (I-20). As an international student, she is ineligible to obtain a work visa (while remaining a full-time student), apply for FAFSA loans, or receive other financial aid as her peers. Applying for possible eligible scholarships is limited to the second year of the program. As a result, she has limited financial support options.
