My name is Alex, and I am a proud wife, mother of three wonderful children (and our loyal dog, Macho), and a determined pursuer of lifelong dreams. Over the past three years, I have dedicated myself not only to my family but also to my personal growth by pursuing my dream of becoming a nurse. This journey has been one of perseverance, sacrifice, and faith.

Nursing school has tested my strength in more ways than I imagined. There have been tears, sleepless nights, and moments of exhaustion when I questioned whether I could continue. The workload, combined with the responsibilities of family and home, has often felt overwhelming. There were days when I wondered, “Why am I putting myself through this?” and thought about how much easier it would be to step back. But every time those thoughts arise, I remind myself of my purpose — my “why.”

I want to help people. I want to be the kind of nurse who acts confidently in moments of crisis — who knows what to do, how to do it, and why it matters. I want to provide comfort and care to those who are vulnerable, even if they never remember my name. My dream is to make a difference, no matter how small, in the lives of others. This calling is what drives me forward when challenges seem insurmountable.

That brings me to the reason for creating this GoFundMe campaign — something I do with both humility and hope. I have been given an incredible opportunity to study abroad in Ecuador as part of my Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Hillsborough Community College. During this trip, I will have the privilege of serving communities that have limited access to healthcare while gaining firsthand experience in global nursing practices. I will also be able to immerse myself in Ecuador’s rich culture and learn from a healthcare system shaped by different social and economic realities.

This opportunity represents more than just a trip; it is a step toward becoming a well-rounded, compassionate nurse who understands care from a global perspective. My goal is not only to learn but also to give back — to bring medical care, comfort, and compassion to those who need it most.

I apply diligently for scholarships, and while I have been fortunate to receive some support, most funds are allocated directly to tuition and textbooks. I also work independently to help support my family; however, the demands of nursing school have required me to reduce my working hours in order to keep up with coursework and clinical responsibilities. As a result, I am reaching out for help to make this experience possible without compromising my academic success or my family’s stability.

The total estimated cost for this trip includes airfare, lodging, immunizations, and, if possible, an extra suitcase filled with medical and hygiene donations for the people of Ecuador. My fundraising goal is $2,000, and I am confident that, with your support, I can save the remainder needed to participate fully.
