The Story of the Smart Learning Academy

In August 2021, Afghanistan was plunged into darkness. When the Taliban took control, schools shut their doors to girls, and an entire generation was forced into silence. The streets were emptied of students, the classrooms abandoned. Families whispered about an uncertain future, their daughters left to wonder if they would ever return to the lives they had once dreamed of.

But in Bamiyan, a small group of Afghan students refused to let that be the end of the story. They could not accept a world where girls were erased from education. They could not sit still while history was being rewritten in oppression’s favor. So, they took action. They founded the Smart Learning Academy.

I saw a video of their classrooms.

In that video, I saw girls sitting in a dimly lit room, their faces covered, their voices hushed but determined. On one side of the window, a heavy curtain concealed this act of defiance, shielding them from a world that forbids their education. But then, my eyes moved to the wall. And there, written in Farsi, was a promise—آینده بهتر (Better Future).

That is why I am launching this GoFundMe campaign to support the Smart Learning Academy. These students and teachers have already taken the greatest risk by daring to learn.

• $25 provides a student with learning materials for a month.

• $50 gives them internet access so they can study online.

• $100 helps the academy buy a laptop for students to use for exam preparation and learning.
