Hi, we are FullCircle Community Services (FCCS), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing inclusive, person-centered day programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in the Albuquerque metro area.

The Problem:

In New Mexico, there is a significant shortage of day programs for adults with I/DD. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated this issue, leading to the closure of many programs and leaving a critical gap in services. During 2020 and 2021, the State of New Mexico mandated the closure of all congregate day programs, and many of these programs remained closed throughout 2021. Even today, some have not reopened, leaving adults with I/DD with very few options for receiving the support they need.

Imagine the impact on families and participants who rely on these services: adults with I/DD are left isolated at home without the structured activities, social interactions, and community engagement that day programs provide. This highlights the urgent need for more support to ensure these participants have access to the programs they deserve.

Recently, the agency where we all worked decided to go in a different direction, which left many participants without any place to go. This sudden change left a void in services that we are determined to fill.

Our Solution:

FCCS is stepping up to bridge this gap. We offer Customized Community Group Services designed to empower adults with I/DD through a range of activities that promote self-advocacy, independence, community engagement, and workforce readiness. Our programs are built on a foundation of participant rights, person-centered support, quality services, and teamwork.

Our approach includes:

Expanding Service Availability: By opening a new program, FCCS will increase the number of available spots for participants, helping to reduce the current shortage and provide more opportunities for adults with I/DD to engage in meaningful activities.

Person-Centered Approach: FCCS focuses on individualized care, ensuring that each participant’s unique needs and goals are met through tailored activities and support. We believe that every participant is unique, and our programs are designed to respect and enhance their individuality.

Comprehensive Activities: We offer a wide range of activities, including cognitive, social, physical, and creative pursuits. These activities are designed to help participants develop essential skills, enjoy a meaningful day program experience, and enhance their overall well-being.

Community Integration: FCCS emphasizes community outings and engagement, helping participants explore and connect with their local community. By fostering a sense of belonging and inclusion, we aim to enrich the lives of our participants and create a more inclusive community. We regularly organize trips to local parks, museums, and community events to help build friendships.

Volunteer Opportunities: FCCS provides participants with volunteer opportunities within the community. This not only helps participants give back but also builds confidence, social skills, and a sense of purpose.

Promoting Employment: Although FCCS does not directly provide employment, we are committed to helping participants explore and discover workforce opportunities. Through partnerships with local businesses, we promote job training and placement programs. Participants receive support in developing job skills, creating resumes, and preparing for interviews.
