Empower Adanna's Global Education Journey

Hi, I’m Adanna, a second-year Economics student at Cal Poly SLO, and I’m looking for support to make my dream of studying abroad this summer a reality.

I’ve been accepted into a study abroad program in Valladolid, Spain where I’ll immerse myself in the Spanish language, connect with students from around the world, and grow as a global citizen. I have always hoped to study abroad one day, but finances have always been a huge struggle for my family. That’s why I’m asking for your support to help me take this life-changing next step in my journey.

Why this means so much to me:
I strongly believe in the power of education, not just in classrooms, but in life, travel, and human connection. In high school, I had the opportunity to travel to Riobamba, Ecuador with the non-profit organization Global Glimpse; my first and only international experience so far!

In Ecuador, I felt an overwhelming sense of connectedness. That feeling ignited a responsibility to get involved in my own community back home. From community service work to activism to pursuing a degree in Economics, each decision I have made since my experience in Ecuador has been grounded in my desire to leave the world better than how I found it.

Last summer, I worked with the non-profit Global Glimpse as an Alumni Intern, experiencing the magic of making meaningful travel more accessible to students like me—students with big dreams but limited resources. Reading hundreds of student testimonies about the life-changing power of travel inspired me to make global learning part of my life’s purpose and help others do the same.

I know that studying abroad this summer will give me the knowledge, tools, and connections necessary to keep making meaningful change.

A little about me:
Through hard work and dedication, I’ve succeeded in making the Dean’s List every quarter at Cal Poly.

I’m proud to serve on the executive boards of both Women in Business and the Black Student Union. In addition, I’m an incoming Multicultural Business Program Intern in the Orfalea College of Business! These meaningful leadership roles have given me a platform to learn, grow, and uplift others.

I’m a graduate of Analy High School in Sebastopol, CA, where I played on the volleyball team, was part of the Gender and Sexuality Alliance, and began the Analy Clothing Swap Club, which was centered around community engagement and sustainable fashion.

I was also part of the small but mighty team that spearheaded the Black Lives Matter Mural project through the Sebastopol Plaza in 2020

I know that if given the chance, I’ll take what I learn abroad and use it to give back to my school, my community, and to other students with similar aspirations.

How you can help:
My goal is to raise $8,950 to cover program costs, travel, and living expenses while abroad. Every dollar counts, and if you aren’t able to donate, sharing my story is an amazing way to help!

Your support will help me:

  • Travel to Valladolid this summer through Cal Poly Global ✈️
  • Study Humanities in World Cultures and Spanish at the University of Valladolid
  • Connect with students across cultures and borders
  • Return home with tools to lead and give back

I truly believe that when one of us rises, we all do. Your help would mean the world, not just to me, but to the communities I’ll continue to serve in the future. Thank you for believing in me and investing in what’s possible.

Let’s make this happen, together!

With love and gratitude,
Adanna
