In September of 2019, something happened to me that unfortunately happens all too often. I became the victim and survivor of drug induced sexual assault. Since then I have struggles with daily tasks, and maintaining a sense of structure outside of the home. I haven’t been able to leave the house on my own, I’ve dealt with frequent nightmares and panic attacks that made holding a job or completing college courses nearly impossible. My dream is to become a fine artist and activist and spread awareness about the struggles after enduring sexual violence. I believe the pathway to becoming independent again and achieving my goals is through getting a medically trained psychiatric service animal. I have been completely approved by New Hope Service Animals located in western PA, and now am tasked with raising money to pay for all the training and travel expenses. Psychiatric Service Dogs not only are trained to ground survivors during panic attacks and nightmares, but also act as a barrier and safeguard in public between the survivors personal space and strangers. It takes years of training to prepare service animals for work with a disabled individual, which is why it is so costly, and why I need your help.
