Support for Wheelchair Adaptive Device to Enhance Mobility
Donation protected
Almost 7 years ago, I was in an accident that left me for now what medical terms call a T4 complete paraplegic. Life brings many challenges, but with that, many blessings of help, and I am forever grateful. Many out-of-pocket expenses come with my disability. There are many things I need weekly for my health that you would expect insurance to pay for, but they do not.
This year, I turned 55, and even though I work hard to keep moving, some days, the small part of my body I do have feeling is in a lot of pain. My arthritis and osteoporosis are things I struggle with, but I want to stay in my manual chair and save my shoulders.
I would like an adaptive device to attach to my manual wheelchair, which allows me to have assistive power and control over it. The few devices they make for manual chairs in the U.S. that I sampled cannot go on uneven pavement or in the grass. They do not elevate your castors off the ground, which can lead to an accident by throwing you out of your chair.
I have spent a lot of time researching devices that you can drive that are reliable, easy to transport, and use, and take off-road. There were no options until a few years ago, a company in Europe that makes the UNAwheel introduced the UNAwheel mini. UNAwheel mini video
I can take this, hook it up, and drive/brake anytime and anywhere. It is not covered by insurance, so it is an out-of-pocket expense. There are many other bigger causes than mine, but if you would like to help me, I would be forever thankful and grateful for anything. God bless you and your families❤️
