Hello! My name is Portia Winn. I am a single mother to two daughters, ages 5 and 4, who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in September 2023. In the last year, I have undergone an aggressive approach to treatment including, a month long hospital stay, 8 bone marrow biopsies, multiple rounds of various chemotherapies, dozens of blood draws and transfusions, two PICC, central line insertion, and a port.
Recently, I was hospitalized for additional chemotherapy due to my cancer resurfacing. I am currently hospitalized for chemo and a bone marrow transplant to better my chances at long term remission. There are many life-threatening complications that can occur from this transplant. As a result, I will be in isolation for at least a year due to my compromised immune system.
I recently moved into a beautiful new home which provides security for my daughters in a great school district. Sadly, after being informed by my clinicians of my transplant, I will need to transfer my finances to disability for up to a year. Disability payments will financially impact me being able to afford my monthly expenses, medical bills and costs for my daughters. Additionally, I come from a very small family which makes it difficult to find resources for my growing needs. I am the caretaker to my family, who will now be needing assistance 24/7 for a significant portion of this treatment. I have to rely on others for transportation, household, and all medical needs for the first 100 days.
I kindly ask for any financial support as I navigate through this unpredictable time in my life. It has been a challenge worrying about finances and children more than my health. Your generosity would mean so much to my daughters and me. I refuse to let this disease take any goals I have for my family!
Also, if you prefer an alternative way to support such as: Cash App, Venmo, or Zelle, please contact me directly. Thank you!
Portia Winn
