Hi everyone. I hate asking for help, but needs must. For those not aware, the industry I’ve worked in for 12 years is no longer viable due to off shoring. I have been out of work for 3 years. I attempted to buy myself some time by pursuing a masters abroad in my field but was unfortunately ‘catfished’ by a school advertising facilities that didn’t exist. I had to return to the US but my home, car, and all personal belongings were gone so I went to stay with my sister in a very rural part of Virginia. I can’t drive, there’s nowhere to work here, and I’m basically trapped. I can’t wait for my career to come back, I don’t think it’s going to, and going to different school to study a skilled trade (nursing or imaging) is really my only option to find any sort of independence or hope to get on my feet again. Unfortunately, without substantial help from others, this won’t be possible as I have exhausted federal aid, I am not a resident of that state I reside in, and I do not have the means of acquiring a private loan for myself. It’s really heavy to have to give up on my career, and I’m heartbroken to do it, but it’s simply not coming back. The only long term solution is a more practical, stable career with high demand and less volatility than film and television. I’m currently working on prerequisites remotely, but will be applying to colleges early next year.
