Empower A Dream: Support My Journey To Med School

Donation protected
Hello everyone,

I write to you today with an opportunity to make a huge difference in my life. Perhaps the most beautiful part of our extended community is how generously we take care of each other. Today, I humbly ask for your benevolence; in the future, I hope to be able to pay it back to the next generation.

My name is Jacobo D. Fux, a Scheck Hillel Community School graduate and second-year DO/MBA candidate. I am originally from Miami, FL, where I studied pre-med psychology and sports medicine at the University of Miami. I graduated college in May 2020 and eventually went to graduate school in June 2020 to pursue a master’s degree in biomedical sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Studying medicine has been my dream since losing my dear father to metastatic cancer in February 2011. In his memory and in his honor, I have worked tirelessly throughout the years to focus my hobbies around helping others with their cancer diagnoses and their families.

I bear bad news, as I have been academically dismissed from my medical school. Last semester was a really difficult time for me; I struggled to balance my academics while worrying about my own mother's fluctuating health. My dear mother, a cancer survivor, had two heart attacks in July 2023 and has been receiving treatment.

Additionally, I was highly distracted by the loss of some close friends from the ongoing Middle East war. I was simply unable to give appropriate focus and attention to my studies, and I dropped the ball. Unfortunately, the school did not offer me the option to take a leave of absence. Thankfully, my mother’s health has improved, and we are all in much better spirits. However, I am now without a medical school. I am now working to finish the remaining MBA courses in hopes of graduating with my MBA degree by July 2024.

I am currently pursuing legal action to reverse my academic dismissal with hopes of reinstatement to that same institution or transfer to a local DO school for June–July 2024 to finish my remaining years of medical school. My educational lawyer charges a flat rate of $16,000–$20,000 in order to take my case, and he is very hopeful that he can achieve success. I am in no state to afford these legal fees due to my current and familial situation, and I find myself without many good options. Fortunately, I know that while my situation is rather dire, I also come from a community permeated by generosity, surrounded by families that love and care for all of us. I really, really hate to ask for help, but I don’t know what else to do. It would mean the absolute world to me if you were willing to help a man achieve his dream of becoming a pediatric oncologist who will someday help innocent children fight their respective cancers. I don’t want to give up on my dream of becoming a doctor, and I need your help.

Thank you for considering helping me. In the future, I will put every ounce of my effort and passion into making you and the rest of our incredible community very proud. I will never forget how much my community supported me through these difficult times. May Hashem bless you for your kindness and generosity.
Humbly,

Jacobo D. Fux
