I am a disabled widow mom, who is legally blind and has retinitis pigmentosa along with Usher syndrome, which means being completely deaf in my right ear and partially deaf in my left ear. I am struggling and having daily challenges with staying independent. I have tried to go through the Department of Rehabilitation seeking employment with my disability. It has been significantly unsuccessful. I even decided at one point to get a guide dog, but because I am on a fixed income and I'm not able to find full-time work, I realized I wouldn't be able to financially support a guide dog. So, I feel it will be easier for me to have an Orcam MyEye instead of getting a guide dog because right now I need something that is going to allow me to be independent and to keep persevering through this journey.
The daily challenges that I have include being able to match colors when getting dressed, not being able to read and take medications properly, as well as distinguishing different cans and containers that have food or hygiene products. I also struggle with not being able to see where the doorway is when I’m out in public and not being able to read restaurant menus. Having the Orcam will resolve these issues.
