Empower a composer's navigation through the trans pay gap
Donation protected
I am a working composer for film and opera who has triumphed over a number of hardships, including a recent experience of not being paid for my work over the past 6 months. The transgender pay gap is real and this malfeasance nearly caused me to be homeless during the holidays. I have worked as a professional composer for the last 8 years and have scored several Emmy-nominated projects for networks such as PBS and HBO. I have made history multiple times in my field as a Black woman composer of trans experience. In addition to emotional and financial distress in an ever-changing film industry and mourning the loss of a trusted collaborator, I'm extremely exhausted as I continue to work on, apply for funding, and channel my energy into various self-produced projects for free, under the assumption that I had resources coming in.
I'm excited for the opportunities I have created such as: writing an opera, creating educational workshops, and directing/producing an archival project/film about a historically racially segregated trans strip club in New Orleans as an independent artist and researcher is arduous, but my life's work and mission. I need financial support to cover living expenses such as rent, medical bills, legal fees, food, research materials, and rest.
Your support and contribution will allow me to:
1) Finish my lease, which ends 4/30/25, and not have an eviction on my record.
2) Catch up on months of delayed financial obligations.
3) Move after my lease is up and find a new place.
