Hi, my name is Emmi-Rose. I am 13, and I’m fundraising for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Kenya with my school in July 2027. I’ll be spending a month there, getting involved in a range of projects that support education and community development in two rural communities.
I’ll become part of the community as I live and work alongside local people, learning about the challenges they face as well as the rich traditions and culture of Kenya. Throughout my expedition, I’ll get up close to some truly incredible wildlife—trying to spot some of the Big Five on land and scuba diving among colourful marine life. I’ll also have the opportunity to earn a PADI Open Water Scuba Diving qualification in the glistening Indian Ocean.
How I hope to make a difference
I’ll be working on a range of projects aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, each designed to make a lasting and meaningful impact on some of the region’s most critical issues.
Kenya – School improvements and conservation work
Many local schools are in very dilapidated buildings that suffer from erosion and seasonal flooding. I’ll help build or renovate school buildings so that children have a clean and safe academic environment. I’ll also support initiatives that promote peaceful co-existence between the community and local wildlife, such as improving natural waterholes and planting indigenous trees for habitat and food sources.
