Emmie’s Endometriosis Surgery Fundraiser

Hi there, I’m Emmie and I’m a 26 year old illustrator from North London. I have a disease known as Endometriosis which has progressively got worse over the past few years. I’m fundraising to help me pay for the surgery I desperately need to potentially alleviate my painful symptoms - the current NHS waiting list is over a year long, potentially more due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The surgery I need is a laparoscopy with adhesiolysis and excision of endometriosis lesions which will free up my pelvic organs of the scar tissue cementing them together as well as the deep rooted endometriosis lesions on those organs too. I had this same surgery in 2019 and was expecting to be free from the symptoms of endometriosis for a number of years, however scans have shown I have a rapid growth of adhesions/scar tissue and lesions that began to return just 6 months after my procedure. Some scans I had in September showed that my left ovary was being pulled back between my uterus and bowel by adhesions which as you can imagine is incredibly painful and has left me hospitalised a number of times over the past year.

I find it difficult to sit, stand, lie down, exercise, work, socialise…(so on and so forth) due to the progression of this condition and it has put a roadblock in the way of me being able to pursue my career in tattooing and live a normal life of a 26 year old.

This surgery won’t 100% relieve my chronic pain, it may not work and as with all surgeries comes with mortal risk. I am at the point where I am 100% willing to try anything to get SOME relief and waiting on an indefinite NHS waiting list is making my life unbearable.

I have a top U.K. surgeon, pain management and pelvic physio on the NHS and they look after me as well as they can with NHS resources and funding. My surgeon practices privately too and I’ve been quoted roughly £10,000 for this procedure. By raising this money, I will be able to get my surgery near enough immediately after raising the funds which will change my life.
