Emmet Manheim loved roller coasters. He loved their speed and their excitement. He studied their design and how they are made. While Emmet was sick in the hospital, he dreamed of visiting Cedar Point, the Roller Coaster Capital of the World. Cedar Point's roller coasters helped Emmet fight the pain and the fear of being sick.
Just like Emmet, I love roller coasters. I also love their speed and their excitement, and I also study their design and how they are made. Since I was little, my Dad would tell me about his college friend Lisa and her son Emmet who loved roller coasters as much as me, and how they would come visit us in Cleveland to ride roller coasters together at Cedar Point. I was going to be the tour guide, because I know Cedar Point like the back of my hand.
Emmet passed away in September of this year after battling Aplastic Anemia. It was just a few weeks before Emmet's 11th birthday, October 23. Emmet never made it to Cedar Point, and I never got to meet him.
For my bat mitzvah project this December, I am working with Cedar Point to create the Emmet Manheim Cedar Point Fund. Every year, Cedar Point will invite a sick kid and his or her family to visit Cedar Point and ride the roller coasters that Emmet dreamed about. They will learn about Emmet and his story, and his love of coasters. Emmet will live on through these Cedar Point experiences, and through the roller coasters at Cedar Point.
Please help me celebrate Emmet's life and love of coasters by helping us to raise money for the Emmet Manheim Cedar Point fund.
