Emma's Special Equipment Fundraiser

Donation protected
Our beautiful daughter Emma was born as a healthy baby.  For the first 3 years, she achieved all her milestones. As she was growing up, she was very active. She liked playing outside, singing, and going to the park. She counted 1 to 10 in English and Spanish. She sang along to all the Disney shows. She could cite the entire Frozen movie. She was growing up as any other kid. We noticed a small delay in her speech. However, we assumed it was to Emma learning Spanish, English, and Vietnamese all at once.
At 3 years old, Emma started to have small myoclonic "jerking" seizures. We took Emma to see a neurologist that diagnosed her with Epilepsy. Our hope was that she could eventually "control" her seizures with medication or eventually "grow out of it". Her seizures grew as time went by. She started to wear a helmet due her seizures would cause her to fall.  She also developed Absence "staring" seizures. Both types of seizures, Emma started to struggle to learn new words, hit new milestones, and started to stumble often.
At age 4, Emma started to fall a lot until eventually she stopped walking and wanted to just crawl. This caused us to seek more answers! After searching and searching, Emma was diagnosed with "Batten Disease - CLN7". Batten disease is an extremely rare and fatal autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disorder that begins in childhood. Common symptoms are seizures, vision loss, loss of motor skills, and the ability to walk and talk. At the moment, there is no cure for this disease.
This diagnose turned our world upside down. As a parent, you would do anything to for your child's well-being.
Emma is now 5 years old; she has lost her ability to walk, most of her vocabulary is gone, has a hard time with daily tasks such as eating, playing and communicating. We continue to love on Emma and appreciate every day she is with us. She definitely changes our perspective of life.

Our goal for $1000 is to raise funds to buy her equipment that will help her posture and stability.
