Emma's charity tandem skydive

Skydiving for a Cause: Please help me make a difference…

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Emma Barnard, and it is with some trepidation (I have a deep-seated fear of heights and even struggle to use escalators!) that I am challenging myself to undertake a tandem skydive on April 13th to raise money for two causes that mean a great deal to me and my family. I am doing this to raise funds and awareness for Cancer Research UK and also for Ranelagh School. The cost of the skydive is being covered by me personally, so every pound of sponsorship money will go to my chosen causes and split 50/50 between them.

Why am I supporting these causes?

Cancer has affected members of my family and close friends. I know first hand the worry and anxiety that the word Cancer brings, from the initial diagnosis to treatment and sadly bereavement - seeing a loved one go through it is very tough. I am sure most of you also know someone who has been through a Cancer diagnosis and can understand the feelings of helplessness and worry. Cancer Research UK is a charity which is working towards bringing about “a world where everybody lives longer, better lives, free from the fear of Cancer”. Whether it's a personal experience, witnessing the impact of the charity's work, or a deep-rooted belief in the cause, this is a charity that truly resonates with me.

So why also Ranelagh School?

I have three Girls, the youngest being currently in Year 13. They have all attended Ranelagh from Years 7 through to Year 13 and this is my 16th year as a Ranelagh parent. The school has given and continues to give great support to them. I would like to raise as much money as I can to say thank you! The Girls have benefited hugely from a wide range of resources from accessing the Counselling services provided by the school to sporting activities, pastoral care and science equipment to name a few.

By sponsoring my skydive, you will be making a direct and tangible impact on the lives of not just those who are suffering from Cancer now, but the patients of the future. You will also be helping towards resources for Ranelagh students present and future.
