Hi everyone, my name is Emmanuel, and I was involved in a very serious car accident in the early morning of January 14, 2019.  It's taken me some time to finally admit that I needed to reach out for help as my life has taken a downward spiral stemming from this car accident. I was part of a multi-vehicle collision on my way to work. I was hit from behind at about 80mph and spun into oncoming traffic where I was hit by multiple vehicles before finally being impacted by a large semi-truck. I had to be cut out of my car and rushed to the hospital. After multiple examinations, the doctors were shocked as they told me that there were no serious injuries. I had to undergo months of physical therapy as well as psychological therapy to help heal from the car accident. I am truly lucky to still be alive.

However, this traumatic event has still severely impacted my life. As a DACA student, I had no medical insurance to cover the medical bills from the car accident. Despite the accident not being my fault, the medical bills were still put underneath my name. This resulted in over $50,000 worth of medical costs placed on me with no ability to pay. As a result, my credit score began to drop which made me ineligible to apply for the only funding source DACA students have access to in order to pay for school, private student loans. As a result, I was forced to stop attending my doctoral program until I was able to figure out how to pay for the rest of my schooling on my path to becoming a Psychologist. 

Currently, I am stuck with a large debt for both medical expenses as well as unpaid tuition with no way of paying either off and inability to continue my dream of becoming a Psychologist and the first Ph.D. graduate in my family. I understand that not everyone is in a financial position to help. Just know that every dollar and every single person that this fund is shared with will make a difference. I am asking for donations to help cover the cost of medical bills as well as funding to help me get back to school.
