Emma's Broken Leg Surgery
Donation protected
Ive never really considered doing one of these until one of the most traumatic things in my life took place last night.
I'd like to explain the full description of what took place so as to describe the horrible pain and confusion the my little angel experienced. Also, because if you know me, and you've met my little world Emma "Babe" Goldman. Then you understand how insane this has been. Fucking far more for her than me and my ridiculous episodes of tears and head full of uncertainty.
Monday evening, the 11th of June, I rolled up to the restaurant Pappy and Harriet's up in Pioneertown in my 69 van to meet our family of friends for dinner outside. We came together, Emma as well at the picnic tables and enjoyed the perfect weather and company. After we finished dinner I brought Emma back to the van so I could pop inside to say hello to a couple friends before heading home. While I was inside another friend came up and expressed to me that Emma had jumped out and was hanging out with them outside. Something that from time to time happens. She pops out and hangs with the folk. Everyone at Pappy's knows and loves her and I came out to rustle her up. She was under the same picnic tables with friends and I called her out and as she came out I noticed that she was seriously injured. Her back right leg was completely snapped in half (please refer to the x-rays), the skin was not punctured but it was a full break. I right off the bat thought maybe this was just a bad jump from the window of the van, yet was confused because she'd done it countless times before on jobsites or just excited when pulling up to friends houses. I grabbed her up and rushed her back to my van. Upon which saw that I had also had contracted a flat tire. My absolutely wonderful friends were all there including the bar and security asking if they could help.
For the sake of the situation, a friend helped me rush to Joshua Tree to get a couple pain relieving pills used for canines from a friend who had some left over from a pervious prescription for his dog. I gave her two at intervals in the night to tide her over in a splint, until I could be standing at the door of the hospital when it opened the next morning. We noticed that she had some bleeding on her lip when she tried licking the splint, and thought she may have bit her tongue or lip when she jumped out of the van since it was light bleeding. She was in severe pain but the pill helped her sleep soundly.
The next morning we were in the hospital right as they opened and she was admitted and x-rayed. After seeing the x-rays and how bad of a location the break was and her heavily concerned tone of voice, it threw my head spinning. She said they would wait till the pill I gave her at 5am had worn off so they could sedate her to put a rigid and proper splint on her whole hip.
She was brought to the back and I was sent out, instructed to wait for a call.
I then went to the van to fix the tire and return the truck my good friend allowed me to borrow for the night. While jacking the truck up he also arrived to help me resolve the issue. And this is when we collectively realized how she had actually broken her leg. As we were both on our knees in the dirt next to my van, my friend produced a tooth from the dirt. It was Emma's canine. This is where we realized with horror that she had jumped out the window and her leg had slipped into the door handle and snapped completely clean, forcing her body to swing toward the tire below the door and literally burst the side wall with her upper jaw. We found the burst, we found the blood. I can barely contain myself even thinking about what she experienced.
Hours went by and finally around 4pm I met with the doctor again to discuss our options of moving forward. I was given two:
The first was an amputation of her leg.
The second was a complete intensive surgery of the leg and break, which will, within the proper healing time return her to a fully functional leg. The mountain to climb is only that it will cost upwards of 5000 dollars for the surgery.
Now I must ask you all to understand what she means to me. How loving to every single soul she meets. How she lives and breathes the air I exist within. Wherever i go she is with me. She rolls through with world healthy and happy and breaking hearts right and left. She is my queen.
I will be eternally indebted and overwhelmingly grateful for anyone that can donate anything at all, any love sent, care given. Her and I are going to have to tough year ahead of us due to my constantly working. But I know she is loved and again ask for a hand in bringing my baby back.
If you have any further questions please email me.
This is injury is serious to a point that I need to raise this as soon as humanly possible to get her into surgery immediately. Again, anything helps. My goal is 5000 dollars. And our eternal thanks is boundless.
