Emma was a miracle! Now is our chance to be one.

In 2017, Emma, a brave Boston Terrier was found abandoned in New Orleans' City Park. Blind and covered in skin infections, she was put into foster care by NOLA Bulldog Rescue and was subsequently diagnosed with Cushing's Disease and hyperthyroidism, thus requiring vigilant care and medication for the rest of her life.

Despite all odds, Emma's wounds healed, her infected eyes were removed, and she soldiered on heroically.  Alicia Zenobia, a local artist and animal lover, fostered her and helped nurse her back to health. In the summer of 2017, she found her forever mom, Kelsey Confreda (pictured above and below).

At the beginning of May this year, Emma started to show some strange symptoms: she could barely stand up, she wasn't eating, and it was apparent to Kelsey that something was very off. She went into the vet and it was decided after a number of tests and x-rays that she needed emergency stomach surgery.

After surgery, she seemed like she was finally recovering and back to her fun, curious self when, while still in doggy ICU, she tragically aspirated a piece of food, stopped breathing, and was unable to be resuscitated.

Emma died early in the morning of May 6th, 2020. She was a ray of sunshine to her enormous extended family (human and otherwise) who drew constant mirth and comfort from her affection, from her signature, word-like barks, and from the mutual, unconditional devotion she shared with her forever-home "seeing-eye human" Kelsey Confreda.  The two were best friends through the hardest of times in both of their lives.

Your generous contribution to this fund will go to help Kelsey pay the sudden and substantial costs associated with Emma's final expenses, including: radiology, anesthesia, a host of medications, surgery, intensive veterinary care, and cremation.

Any amount you can give will be helpful and appreciated. Let's celebrate Emma's life by making her passing a manageable one. Emma was a miracle. Now's our chance to be miracles, too.
