Emma Swaim is a super lively, spirited, 16 year old who is as unique as they come. Emma is a dancer and a swimmer. She is involved with almost every single social club at Elkin High school, ranging from Christian Leadership clubs to Business Leadership clubs. When Emma was finding it hard to breathe earlier in the fall after her swim practices, she was taken her to the doctor who diagnosed her with a touch of pneumonia and asthma. Even with this diagnosis, Emma kept on swimming and kept on dancing, even beating some of her own personal records. When she went back for her follow-up in late January, the doctor gave the news that no parent would ever want to hear…cancer. It was a large tumor near her lungs the whole time restricting her breathing and causing the fatigue and itchy skin. The doctors say this princess warrior has Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. This type of cancer is definitely beatable, and Emma is definitely ready to beat it.
The Swaims have spent every day in Brenner’s Children’s hospital in Winston-Salem, NC since the doctors revealed the mass, and every day Emma has put on a brave face and amazing positive attitude. She continues to care more about others than she does herself. That is just who she is. A loving, caring, amazing 16 year old who is about to fight and win this battle.
Let's help Emma and her parents with the burden of healthcare and travel expenses, so they can focus on getting better as a family.
