Hello Everyone,

I am here on this platform, speaking on behalf of my cousin Cladia Benitez for her daughter Emma Rose. My family and I asks for your prayers, support, and donations to help lay beautiful Emma Rose Peralta to rest.

In August of 2021 which was only 2 months before her 3rd birthday Emma Rose got diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome/Prelukemia. The doctor explained to my cousin everything that would have to be done to Emma Rose in order for her to have a better chance at survival. Emma started chemotherapy right away. During this time of getting chemotherapy Emma Rose got a fungus in her lungs. On April 19, 2022 which was my cousin Cladia’s birthday Emma Rose needed to get a bone marrow transplant. This transplant would have helped Emma Rose’s chances of not getting leukemia, since she still had Prelukemia. But even with the bone marrow transplant Emma Rose was not fully recovering the way she needed too. Emma Rose ended up going into liver failure due to chemotherapy, which required for Emma Rose to be in the ICU on May 14. During this time in the ICU she contracted the Rhinovirus, adenovirus and the original coronavirus. This was only 60 days after transplant when she developed all of these virus’s. Since Emma Rose had a low immune system this made her vulnerable to contracting virus’s and fungus’s that most people could fight off. The fungus that had contracted before getting the bone marrow transplant was called aspergillus fungus. This fungus managed to get into her lungs and caused her left lung to collapse. Emma Rose had also developed pneumonia during this time. Since Emma Rose had gotten all 3 virus’s it completely destroyed her lungs. This made it very difficult for Emma to breathe on her own without the oxygen mask on at all times. Emma’s doctors tried everything to cure her from all 3 virus’s in order to save her lungs. But unfortunately during this process of bettering her lungs there would always be an air leak in her lungs. Each time Emma’s doctors would try to drain her lungs, but unfortunately during one of the times that they tried to drain her lungs. The doctor that was performing the procure accidentally poked her right heart artery. The poke caused for her heart to develop blood which also developed pressure. Unfortunately this caused for her heart to stop and doctors tried to resuscitate, which took 15-20 minutes to bring her back. This happened in June 13th, 2022 which was a month or about a month and a half after being admitted into the ICU. After this incident they had to out Emma Rose on the ECMO Machine. What the ECMO machine does is that the blood is pumped on the outside of your body to a heart-lung machine that removes carbon dioxide and sends oxygen-filled blood back to tissues in the body. This was to try to help for Emma’s lung to rest and heal from being on the ECMO machine. But unfortunately, do to all of the damaged that had happened Emma’s lung tissue and air sacs were completely destroyed and her lungs no longer worked on their own.

My cousin fought hard for her baby girl to have a fighting chance, but unfortunately Emma Rose did not make it. Emma Rose fought long and hard for almost a whole year. Emma Rose was a strong, beautiful, and kind hearted little girl. She fought Prelukemia with all might, but unfortunately despite everything Emma did not make it. So again if you can find it in your heart to donate so that Emma Rose Peralta can be beautifully laid to rest. But also if you can also pray for my cousin Cladia as well. She is a single mom of 2 other kids as well besides being Emma’s mother. I know this will be an extremely hard for Cladia as she learns to navigate without Emma Rose. So again any prayers, support, or donations would be gladly appreciated.
