Emma and Ellie’s Half Marathon for MND
Thank you for taking the time to visit our page and read our story.
In May 2021 we will be running the Edinburgh half marathon. This will be a huge challenge for us as people who know us will know we are not runners. It will be far from a walk in the park.
We have chosen to raise money for MND Scotland, which is a charity close to our hearts. In March 2020 Emma’s dad was diagnosed with bulbar onset MND which has affected his speech and swallowing. To lose speech is devastating and Emma misses their chats. The disease is terminal, no hope, no cure. He is getting progressively worse as the days, weeks and months go by. Before Emma’s dad was diagnosed it wasn’t a disease we had ever really heard of which has suddenly changed our lives.
MND Scotland is the leading charity in Scotland providing care and support to people affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND), as well as funding vital research into finding a cure. They campaign on behalf of people affected by MND and raise awareness of the disease, to ensure their voice is heard. People with MND are at the heart of everything they do and they are committed to improving the lives of those affected now and determined to find a cure for those affected in the future.
This has made us more determined than ever to fundraise as much as we can to help the 400 people diagnosed in Scotland and for future people who will face MND. Not that we are competitive... but Doddie Weir has raised £5 million so we have a lot to live up to! So any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
