We, Emma and Catherine Heseltine, have created this GoFundMe appeal to approach our family and friends who might have a bit of money to spare for a very worthwhile cause. We are looking to hopefully save a life and enable children to grow up without the trauma of losing their mum.

We have a good friend in London who is arranging vital medical care for her cousin Najah in Sudan. Najah is a 35-year-old mother to 4 children aged 19, 16, 10 and 8. They live in a northern Sudanese village. Unfortunately, Najah has been diagnosed with rectal cancer. If she receives the correct treatment her prognosis is very good, but without treatment, the cancer would ultimately take her life and leave her children bereft of their mother.

Najah’s extended family have already raised £2,600 between them for the life-saving surgery. However, they are now scraping at an empty barrel because most Sudanese family and friends who want to help have already drained their resources on evacuating themselves and family members from the capital and elsewhere in Sudan. The terrible civil war there has taken a great toll, both emotionally and financially. So our friend Maysoon still needs to raise another £2,400 to save her cousin’s life. Yet time is of the essence and the sooner the money is raised and Najah can be operated on, the better the outcome will be.

That is why we are reaching out for crowdfunding. We hope that if you’re reading this then you know us personally well enough to know that we are not fraudsters! We in turn know and trust our kind-hearted friend Maysoon, who over the years has been a very faithful friend and an invaluable support to both Catherine and Emma in difficult times. Donations will go to Maysoon to make the necessary arrangements, and if you have any queries we will pass your message on to her to reply to you.
