Emlyn Johnson Horse Dream tour Darwin to Broome!

Hi, my name is Emlyn and I am fundraising to get my Horse Dream band from Hobart up to Darwin and back from Broome. We have a sick new album recorded at Frying Pan studios MONA that is a jolly garagey punkey affair with my enigmatic lyricism at the fore. At the fore! 12 fun songs, lots of backing vocals, a fair dose of essence-of-Hobart instrument swapping, Horse Dream wants to play shows in Darwin, Fitzroy Crossing, and various spots in the NT and Kimberley over a period of 10 days in September.

I’m trying to raise $2900 so that the losses of this tour are at a psychologically sustainable level! It’ll cost band members Bobby and Callum about $500 per unit to get up to Darwin in early September (that’s 1000 bucks), and about $800 per unit to get back to Hobart from Broome (there’s another 1600), so that’s $2600 in flights. On top of that I have allowed them Per Diems of $15 over the 10 day period, which is $150 per unit, or $300 bucks total. (They will only be allowed to consumer Nutella sandwiches on wholemeal bread for the sustenance, and if a gig goes well they will be rewarded with a slice of Edam cheese, and a small glass of cottees). Hence, ye olde $2900!

The idea is they fly up to Darwin with musical equipment, we rehearse and do a show in Darwin, head off on the road with a bass guitar, electric guitar, small drum kit, couple of busking amps, mics, stands etc… and perform in venues in Kununurra, Fitzroy, Derby, Broome, as well as various truckstops in the savannah, and on top of rocky crags and alongside Croc cul-de-sacs and Brolga bogs.

There’ll be plenty of other costs associated with the trip - petrol, AA batteries, medication, Nutella etc - and the plan is for gigs along the way to pull in some cash to go towards that. My friend Sam is based in Derby and can help organise local bands and venues.

The beginning of this project is 11 weeks away and I’m making the fundraising period one week (Monday June 24 to Monday July 1) so that flights can be booked, venues, supports, promotion etc… arranged at that sort of 2-month-in-advance point. The figure of $2900 is what I’m aiming for and if that can be raised, well, oh mate! At the fore! I reckon the project could proceed with about $2k raised (and Go-Fund-Me ain’t an all or nothing platform) so we’d still get the money. Anything significantly less than $2k and I reckon we’d be saying “Horse Dream Kimberley Tour was, like C. Y. O’Connor’s Goldfields Pipeline, a ‘Scheme of Madness’.”

It’s EOFY, and although “donations made to a personal GoFundMe fundraiser are considered personal gifts and may not be tax-deductible”, I mean what the hell? I’m pretty sure EOFY Tool sale purchases don’t really make financial sense either!!!
