Emi’s surgery and recovery
I’m raising money to help friends of mine Zoe & Laura cover the additional costs of Emi’s surgery as well as her physio to ensure she can make the best recovery possible from her life changing and saving surgery.
Before I give a timeline of info of what has all happened to little Emi, I want to add that they did and still do have a very good level of insurance that paid out for majority of the surgery but they however will not pay the full amount, neither will they pay for Emi’s physio due to the amount already being maxed out.
On the 24th of February Emi began to struggle with her walking. Upon her visit to our own vet she was transferred to Dick White Referrals specialist vets the very next day for an MRI.
Initially Emi had to stay 3 days in the vet for various scans and tests. Through the MRI Emi was diagnosed with hemivertibrae, a spinal deformity putting pressure on her spinal cord. When we got her back we had to make the decision of how we wanted to proceed. With advice from the neurologist we decided to take Emi home and keep her completely rested for 4 weeks to see if there was any improvement. After 17 days at home she deteriorated so quickly we had to rush her back for the surgery.
The risks were so high that we weren’t sure she would be able to walk again. Somehow, Emi pulled through the operation and she is now on her way to recovery. But in order for this to happen she requires Physiotherapy and hydrotherapy which is recommended at 1 appointment per week. Her first appointment was today (receipt and picture attached) and we are really confident this will help with her progress. Unfortunately due to being furloughed, the insurance being maxed out and stil owing a remaining amount to the vets, it will be impossible to afford the weekly £60 physio appointments. We would love to give Emi the chance to at least have a few months worth of physio and pay off the rest of the vet bill.
