Hi I'm Emily Jensen-Vargas!
Money Raised Goes to Summer College Tuition
I been accepted to Cornell University's Veterinary School Summer College and I'm only 15! The money raised will be towards my tuition of $12,535 for two courses between June 24 to July 8th. I will be taking a dual 6 week program that consist of 3 weeks of Veterinary Medicine: Science and Practice followed by 3 weeks of Veterinary Medicine: Equine practice.
Long Term Goal: Spending Now Will Mean Savings Later
Cornell Veterinary College is an Ivy League school and a SUNY, the only veterinary school in New York and accepts only 120 students per year. Veterinary schools require experience with animals, at shelters and animal hospitals, but volunteering requires that you are already a veterinary student! I hope that the college courses during the summers will give me a better shot when I finish my undergraduate coursework. Attending a SUNY school will drastically cut my educational costs in the long run.
Short Term Goals: Saving Money with AP Classes
To save money, I am taking as many Advancement Classes in high school as possible. My goal is to have at least one year of college credits completed by the time I graduate high school. Currently, I am a top student at Francis Lewis High School, in the Science Research Program. I began taking summer classes at the DNA Learning Center of Cold Spring Harbor when I was in middle school. I was accepted to the Urban Barcoding Project last year, where I have been working directly with a scientist mentor on my own projects.
More About Me
My father passed on about 5 years ago. My mother is a full-time graduate student at Baruch and my older brother is also in college, at John Jay.
Future Pet Doctor
I have always loved animals, and I became fascinated by watching veterinary procedures online, posted by VetRanch and Big Cat Rescue. Last year, I decided that I wanted to be a Veterinarian. Please help this dream come true.
