We are fundraising to help our daughter Emily receive a medical alert and assistance dog to support her living with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH)—a rare, lifelong genetic condition that affects the adrenal glands.

CAH causes Emily’s body to produce too little cortisol and aldosterone, hormones that are essential for responding to stress and maintaining proper salt balance, while producing too many androgens. Because of this imbalance, Emily is at risk of sudden and potentially life-threatening adrenal crises, which can occur with little warning and require immediate treatment.

As parents, the constant worry is overwhelming—especially knowing that a crisis can happen quickly and at any time. A professionally trained medical alert and assistance dog could detect early physical changes, alert us before a crisis occurs, and provide assistance during emergencies. This support would be life-changing for Emily’s safety, independence, and confidence, and would give our family invaluable peace of mind.

The cost to train a medical alert and assistance dog is approximately $10,000, covering specialised scent detection, task training, and public access training. Unfortunately, these costs are not covered by insurance or standard medical funding.
