Emily's Marathon Fundraiser
Hi Everyone! For those of you who know me, you know that we lost my dad to cancer in 2004.
For those of you who knew him, you all know how awesome he was.
He was always the first one there to help out. Family, friends, neighbors, and strangers - his helping hand was always at the ready. He was the biggest fan and supporter of me, my brother, and my mom. Whether that meant all-weekend soccer tournaments, toddler dance recitals, baseball games, teaching me to drive in our mammoth van, or video-taping my mom practice her job interview questions about 1000 times - he was there, always, with his big smile, and bigger heart - he was always all-in.
My dad was a character - the best character. He laughed loud and loved big.
He taught my brother and I so many things as kids, including how to work hard for things; I remember when he first let me go running with him. I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. Pretty sure we only went about half a mile, but he cheered me on the whole way.
"You've got this, kiddo!" he'd say...
Through tough moments, life's challenges and big changes, there is his voice: You've got this, kiddo.
Running lets me think, helps me remember. How lucky we were to have him for the time we did; all the awesome, fun, and ridiculous memories. But with that also comes the memory of how hard it was to lose him.
I know that just one person, one run, won't change the world. But if I can help just a little bit...
I've been training for a marathon for a little while now (although they've been canceled twice over the past year, still going for it!).I'm running to fundraise for the American Cancer Society. So that other kids with awesome dads can keep them around for a very, very long time.
So, if you can, please help - whether that is through a donation (no matter how small, it's big!) or volunteering with cancer charities, or however you can; all of the fundraising will go straight to the ACS.
The run is on August 7th -Thames Meander Marathon (click for more details).
This one's for Dad. ☝️
Will keep you all in the loop on how it all goes!!
Love and hugs,
Em xx
