We have great news!! On June 23rd, Emily will finally be getting a kidney transplant! It will be coming from a family member, which is absolutely incredible AND makes a very hard process, a little bit easier. We cannot express how grateful we are for this amazing gift.
For those who dont know (and we were those people ourselves), being on dialysis is a full time job. Emily went to dialysis treatments from Aug 2021 until her expected date of surgery of June 23rd...roughly 600 dialysis treatments. She went to dialysis on holidays, her birthday, and even when she was sick. She has had an external port in her chest for 1,400 days. Having this port means she could not get it wet, go swimming, go in a hot tub, etc....extremely limiting.
Her surgery will take place at Mayo Hospital in Rochester, MN and she will be staying at the Gift of LIfe Transplant House in Rochester for a month following surgery.
No flowers are allowed at the house, so please do not send them and visiting is a bit up in the air as they advise transplant patients to not be around many people while on new immunosuppressant drugs. More updates to follow on that.
Thank you for all the love and support you have given Emily over the years. ♥️ We will keep you posted on updates regarding her surgery and recovery.
This transplant will completely change her life for the better. But the recovery and healing process is extensive and long and will mean she cannot work for a number of months. We are hoping to help raise money for her monthly bills, rent, and costs incurred as a result of the surgery and care. Any amount is appreciated. A Go Fund Me account has been set up for this or if you would rather support her directly, her Venmo account is below.
