Emily's Journey to Recovery: Your Help Needed
Donation protected
As many of you know Emily was in a head on collision coming home from the University of Idaho for Easter. She had to be cut from her vehicle with the jaws of life and was life flighted to Kootenai for care. She had extensive damage to her body, but by the grace of God, is going to have a full recovery. We cannot over emphasize how much glory we give to God for her. She has had one miracle after the other. And although this road is going to be long, we get to walk it!
Her left side sustained most of her injuries: a broken ankle, broken femur in 3 places, broken pelvis in 3 places, broken rib and sternum. Internally she has lacerations to the liver, kidney and spleen and a concussion. She has had to have 2 surgeries to repair the ankle, femur and pelvis. The other injuries will all heal naturally, with time. We have had to put her on blood thinners because she has a small blood clot in her lung and they are concerned with more as her leg and hip heals. But so far that has been good!
Recovery is going to be long and extensive. Due to the broken sternum she cannot push or pull with her arms for about a month. This means she cannot lift herself at all to sit, she needs full assistance. Her left leg cannot have any weight on it for 3 months which means she will be in a wheelchair with assistance to move from bed to wheelchair. She is working very hard at PT to sit up in bed. She is determined to eat and exercise to get better and still fulfill her dreams of joining the Army. Her command has been positive with her that she can do that, but it is going to be a very long road. She will have months of recovery and physical therapy.
Insurance is only going to cover some of her expenses. Anyone who has been through something like this understands the medical bills add up, the medications, add up, the home care bills add up, the gas for doctors appointments, the loss of work....she needs a full time caregiver and that will not be paid for. It is overwhelming to consider all the expenses we are just beginning to endure.
We are humbly asking for financial help. We have had people volunteer to help with some of her care and we are so grateful for that! But we simply need financial help for these other pieces. If you are able and willing you would bless us immensly. Thank you and God Bless you - The Stoke Family
