Hello, everyone!

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Emily. Over the past nine years, I’ve worked tirelessly toward earning my doctorate in Pacific Islands visual culture, and I’m now in the final stages of completing my degree. In August 2025, I will begin my dream job as an assistant professor!

However, as I prepare for this exciting new chapter, I find myself in need of a little help to cross the finish line. Moving across the country to start my new position comes with a significant financial burden, and I’m reaching out because I could really use some support to make this transition.

For the last nine years, I’ve been living paycheck to paycheck on a graduate student income, moving across the country twice, and even navigating the challenges of the pandemic, which included having my roommate move out during the lockdown. As a result, I don’t have the savings to cover the costs of another big move.

The funds raised from this campaign will go toward securing an apartment and covering essential expenses such as application fees, a security deposit, first month’s rent, and groceries until I receive my first paycheck. I’ll also be arriving with only a few suitcases, so this will help me get the basic household items and furnishings I need to make my new place livable.
