Hi everyone! Emily is working hard in her 4-week course of daily, 4 hour sessions of intensive PT at the Euro-Therapies program in Michigan. This session, we are focusing improving Emily’s strength and balance, and on helping her adaptively make use of her improving vision to guide her as she moves her body through space. Emily was diagnosed a few years ago with binocular vision dysfunction, which left her unable to see in the lower half of her visual field. This is being addressed through the use of prism glasses. The Therapy Suit Emily wears during intensive PT applies a lot of pressure, forcing her body into correct alignment. Folks like Emily, who have cerebral palsy, develop maladaptive patterns of movement to compensate for areas of weakness and difficulty. The Therapy Suit holds them in correct alignment, and the repetitive practice possible within extended, intensive PT sessions helps them develop new neural pathways and more functional motor patterns. This intensive treatment has helped Emily develop new skills much more rapidly than is possible during traditional PT and has greatly improved her quality of life.
Unfortunately, the intensive PT is not covered by insurance, so that, along with travel and hotel expenses, is entirely out of pocket, for us. If you would like to make a donation, it will go to the Euro-Peds Foundation and be applied directly to Emily’s current course of treatment at Euro-Therapies. Positive thoughts and energy sent our way are most welcome, as well. Thanks so much!!
