My name is Emily, I’m 39 years old, and last year I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). It is an aggressive form of leukemia with a high relapse rate, and I was very lucky to go into remission with just one round of chemotherapy.
Over the past year and a half, I’ve been hospitalized with infections and continued low-dose cancer treatments to reduce the risk of relapse.
Last week, we received the horrible news that I have relapsed and am now back in the hospital undergoing chemotherapy in an attempt to get back into remission.
Unfortunately, I will now need to have a bone marrow transplant procedure to hopefully not get sick again.
We are thankful to have decent health insurance, but this will lead to many more medical bills that we are already drowning in, as well as travel and accommodation expenses as my insurance will not cover the transplant procedure at a hospital near enough to my home.
After being released from the transplant hospital, I will be required to stay near the hospital for approximately 100 days, and my home is outside of the range I can stay.
We are fundraising to cover the overwhelming medical bills, travel, and accommodation expenses associated with my bone marrow transplant.
This fundraiser is for me, Emily, as I battle Acute Myeloid Leukemia and face the challenges of a bone marrow transplant.
