Emily’s Breast Cancer Journey
My sister, Emily, is a single mom to four-month-old Grace. She has been experiencing an easy breastfeeding journey. However, she had what she thought was a clogged duct when Grace was about a month old. She pumped, and breastfed, and massaged, but the lump didn’t go away. Fortunately, a lactation consultant urged her to get the lump checked out if it didn’t go away within a week or two.
Fast-forward to now... Emily has since been diagnosed with Stage 3, Grade 3, Triple Negative, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (breast cancer) with lymph node involvement.
Pending PET scan results, she will undergo 4-6 months of chemo, followed by a single mastectomy with radical lymph node dissection. After surgery, she will undergo approximately 2 months of radiation. And possibly more chemo.
